Haier Washing Machine Error Codes

Get detailed information on what your Haier washing machine error code means and the fault that it indicates. Below is a list of all the Haier error codes that you will find on a machine with a digital display.

Haier washing machine error codes

ERR1 Haier washing machine error code (door lock failure)

The machine detected that the door is not locked properly before the cycle started.

The most common reason for this is that the door interlock device has broken and will need to be replaced. Haier door interlocks are fairly cheap parts, so it shouldn’t cost too much to fix this fault.

Other things to check:

  • Check the wiring to the door lock
  • Make sure the door catch is not broken
  • Check that the door is closed shut properly before pressing the start button
  • Check if the control module has any burn marks

Most of these faults are economical to repair apart from the control module.

ERR2 Haier washing machine error code (water not drained away)

The machine has indicated that the water has not drained away in the allotted time. This is one of the most common error codes that you will see on a Haier washing machine.

Things to check:

  • Inspect the drain pump filter for blockages
  • Check the sump hose for blockages
  • Check the waste drain pipe for blockages
  • Replace the drain pump
  • Make sure the wiring going to the pump is not faulty

The easiest fix for the ERR2 error code is to remove a blockage from the drain pump. Here’s a quick guide on how to check the pump:

  1. Pull down the panel at the bottom right of the machine to reveal the drain pump filter.
  2. Slowly unscrew the filter cap. If the machine is full of water, it’s better to lean the machine back and catch the excess water in a bucket
  3. Once the filter is out, remove any blockages that you can see. Sometimes coins get stuck at the back of the pump.

It’s common to find coins and socks in the filter which will stop the drain pump propeller from turning.

ERR3 Haier washing machine error code (temperature sensor)

There is a problem with the NTC temperature sensor. The sensor is located with the washing element at the back of the machine inside the drum.

On some Haier machines, the heating element is located at the front of the drum, which is a little more tricky to get to.

You can fix this fault by replacing the temperature sensor, which can sometimes be bought individually or with the heating element.

ERR4 Haier washing machine error code (heater failure)

The heating element has failed. The wash heater that allows the water inside the drum to heat up has failed and needs to be replaced.

As mentioned in the ERR3 error code explanation, the heating element is usually found at the back of the machine inside the drum. It can be unscrewed and pulled out quite easily.

Other than the heating element, the NTC and the control module can both be responsible for this error code.

ERR5 Haier washing machine error code (water not filling)

The water has not filled the drum in the time required. Haier washing machines allow for around 3 – 5 minutes for the drum to fill before giving up and displaying this error message.

What you should do:

  • Check for kinks or bends in the water fill pipe
  • Make sure that the water supply tap is in the ON position
  • Check the solenoid valve for blockages
  • Replace the solenoid valve if everything else looks good

If none of the checks above help to resolve the error code, the printed circuit board (PCB) may need replacing.

ERR6 Haier washing machine error code (motor speed fault)

The washing machine has detected that the speed of the motor is too fast or too slow.

This is usually due to a faulty tachometer on the motor, which is responsible for motor speed. The tachometer is a part of the motor and will usually result in the complete motor being replaced.

Other things to look out for:

  • Check the wiring going to the motor
  • Check the motor connection block
  • Make sure the machine is not overloaded

ERR7 Haier washing machine error code (motor overheating)

The thermal overload cutout has detected that the temperature on the motor is too high and has cut the power to the motor. The TOC is a one-shot device and is responsible for making sure that the motor does not overheat.

The motor and the TOC will need to be replaced to fix this error code. It’s most likely that the copper windings on the motor have failed, causing the motor to overheat.

It’s also a good idea to make sure that the wiring leading to and surrounding the motor is not faulty, as burning could be causing the warm temperatures around the motor.

Sometimes, you might see sparks from underneath the machine with this fault, which is a good indication that the motor needs to be replaced.

ERR8 Haier washing machine error code (overfilling)

The washing machine has detected that too much water has entered the drum. The water pressure sensor uses the air pressure inside the drum to monitor the water level.

What to do:

  • Check the water pressure switch pipe is connected
  • Look for holes in the pressure switch pipe
  • Replace the pressure switch

If checking the above doesn’t help remedy the ERR8 fault code, the problem may be with the printed circuit board (PCB) which will need to be repaired or replaced.
