Read through our Candy washing machine error code breakdown and the faults that they mean. We have included some repair advice that can help you get your machine back up and running.
Some of the error code explanations are similar to our Hoover error code breakdown and Baumatic error code list as they share the same manufacturer.
E01 Candy washing machine error code (door lock)
The machine has detected that the door has not locked before or unlocked after a cycle. This error code will commonly be displayed at the start or the end of the wash cycle.
How to fix the E01 Candy error code:
- Make sure the door is securely shut before the cycle starts
- Make sure that the door handle and door catch are not broken
- Check the wiring from the control board down to the door lock
- Inspect the door lock wiring connector block for signs of burning
- Try replacing the door interlock
- Replace the control module
You should always make sure that the door is properly closed before trying to start a cycle. An older washing machine may need a little more force when closing the door to engage the door lock.
This error code is usually caused by a faulty door interlock. The door lock is located on the right side of the machine and can be accessed by removing the front half of the door seal.
If the machine continues to display the E01 error code after replacing the door interlock, then the control module will have failed and will need to be replaced. Sometimes the faulty door lock can cause the control board to malfunction, meaning both will need to be replaced.
E02 Candy washing machine error code (not filling)
The machine has not filled up with water within the required time. Candy washing machines will give up trying to fill with water after around 4 – 5 minutes.
How to solve this error code:
- Make sure the water supply tap is turned on
- Check the back of the machine for a kinked fill pipe
- Try cleaning out the water solenoid valve
- Replace the solenoid valve if it’s faulty
Most of the time, the E02 error is caused by a bad installation. If the machine has recently been installed then the water supply should be checked to make sure that there is enough pressure to supply the machine.
When the machine is installed, it’s common for the water supply pipe to get caught behind the machine and kink. If the pipe is kinked then not enough water will come through the valves.
If the machine has a good water supply and you can hear the machine humming to try and take the water in, it’s likely that the solenoid valve has got jammed and will need to be replaced.
E03 Candy washing machine error code (drain error)
The machine has not been able to drain the water away during the cycle. The Candy E03 error code can be caused by a range of faults including blockages, a faulty drain pump and a broken control module.
The first thing that you should do is check for any blockages inside the machine.
A list of common places a washing machine gets blocked:
- Inspect the drain pump filter for any blockages including small socks, coins and other items that could have been left in your pockets.
- Check the drain pipe for any obstructions. Sometimes coins can get lodged in the pipe.
- Check the sump pipe for a blockage. The sump pipe connects the drum to the drain pump and has a filter that can get trapped with socks and other items of clothing.
Another common area for a blockage to occur is under the sink where the drain pipe connects to the plumbing. This area can get blocked with items that go down the sink and back up the pipes.
If the machine has no blockages then it’s a good idea to replace the drain pump. Candy washing machine drain pumps are known for failing but are very economical to replace.
E04 Candy washing machine error code (anti-flood)
The machine has detected that the anti-flood has been triggered. This error code may mean that there is water in the base of the machine due to a leak.
If you inspect the base of the machine and there is evidence that the machine has been leaking, you will need to find the source of the leak.
Common places that a Candy washing machine will leak from:
- The door seal has a rip or a tear
- The drum has a hole because a coin has punctured through the drum
- The drain pump housing
- The drain pipe has a hole which is allowing water through
- The soap draw is blocked and water is spilling out
- The water inlet valve seals have worn and are dripping down the back of the machine
Finding a leak in a washing machine is often tricky, meaning it can be easier to inspect the machine while it’s running a cycle.
Over the life of your washing machine, if the door seal is not cleaned regularly then mould and bacteria can build up causing small leaks from the door seal. If you want some more information on how to keep your washing machine door seal clean you can take a look at our guide.
If the machine has no visible signs of a leak, and the E04 error code is still displayed on the LCD, then the anti-flood device or the pressure switch has failed and will need to be replaced.
E05 Candy washing machine error code (NTC)
The machine has indicated that the NTC temperature sensor has become defective and has an open circuit.
The temperature sensor on a Candy washing machine is located inside the heating element. The heating element is located at the back of the machine behind the metal access panel.
The E05 error code means that the NTC will need to be replaced, which is usually an inexpensive repair.
Before replacing the NTC it’s a good idea to check the wiring connector block that fits into the NTC and make sure that it is still connected and is not damaged.
How to replace the NTC on a Candy washing machine:
- Make sure that all of the water has been drained from the drum.
- Isolate the machine from the power supply.
- Remove the back cover of the machine.
- The heating element is located at the bottom of the drum, with 2 – 3 wires leading to it.
- Loosen off the bolt that holds the heating element in place. This will shrink the heating element seal, which allows the NTC to be removed.
- Swap the connector over to the new NTC and fit the NTC back into the heating element.
- Tighten up the heating element bolt so that the seal is tight.
- Refit the back cover and then test the machine.
E06 Candy washing machine error code (control module)
The machine has an EEPROM error and the control board has failed. This error code usually indicates that the control module has failed and will need to be reprogrammed or replaced.
The first thing that you should do is check all of the cables that are connected to the control module. Loose or damaged wiring can cause your machine to display an E06 error.
If all of the wires seem to be correct, then the control board will need to be replaced. Candy washing machine control boards need to be programmed before installation.
If you’re going to replace the control module, then make sure that you buy a preprogrammed one or have the equipment necessary to programme it for your machine.
E07 Candy washing machine error code (motor fault)
The machine has detected a fault with the motor. This error code is none specific and can indicate a range of problems with the motor and the wiring.
What you should do:
- Check the carbon brushes that are located on either side of the motor
- Check the motor connector block
- Check the wiring from the PCB down to the motor
- Check the tacho connections at the back of the motor
The most common reason a Candy washing machine displays the E07 error code is that the carbon brushes are low. Carbon brushes wear down over time and eventually stop conducting power to the motor.
If the motor and the wiring seem to be in good working condition then the fault will be with the control board. Candy control boards can often break if another part on the machine is faulty, meaning both the board and the part will need to be repaired.
E08 Candy washing machine error code (tacho fault)
The machine has indicated a problem with the motor tacho. The motor tacho is experiencing a short circuit or an open circuit.
The motor tacho is responsible for monitoring the speed of the motor rotation during a cycle. If the tachometer becomes faulty then the machine can not accurately determine the revolutions and you will often see the drum jolt.
How to fix the E08 error:
- Check the motor tacho wiring
- Check the motor connector block
- Replace the motor tachometer or the complete motor
- Try replacing the control module
Most of the time, this error code means that the motor will need to be replaced. In some cases, the control module can become faulty as a result of this and both parts will need to be replaced.
E09 Candy washing machine error code (motor triac)
The motor triac has an open circuit. The motor triac is located on the control board and is responsible for changing the direction of the motor.
If you have an E09 error code then you should check all of the cables that go from the motor to the control board. If the wiring is not securely plugged in, it can cause the machine to report the E09 fault code.
The most likely repair that your machine needs is a new printed circuit board. Candy washing machines require the control module to be programmed for that specific model which is something to consider before sourcing one.
E12 Candy washing machine error code (control board)
The machine is experiencing a communication error between the control board and the wiring connectors. This error code can mean that the connectors have come away or the control module is faulty.
The first thing you should do is inspect the control board for any loose wires or burned-out connector blocks. If the machine has a separate control board for the LCD, then the wires that connect it can often come loose and the contacts don’t meet the board.
If all of the cables in the machine seem to be in good condition, then the control module will need to be replaced with a new one.
Candy washing machine control boards are usually not programmed when they are supplied, so it’s important that you have them programmed for your model before it is delivered.
E13 Candy washing machine error code (communication error)
The E13 error code means that there is a communication error between the control board and the wiring.
What to check:
- Check the wiring between the LCD and the main control board
- Check the wiring going into the control module and make sure none have come loose
- Look for signs of water damage on the LCD – This is very common for machines that are installed near a sink
If all of the cables look good and no signs of water damage are present, then the control module needs to be repaired or replaced with a new one.
E14 Candy washing machine error code (water temperature)
The machine has detected that the temperature of the water is too low for the wash cycle. This usually indicates a fault with the heating element.
What to check:
- Inspect the wiring that leads to the heating element
- Make sure the NTC connector block is in good condition
- Try replacing the heating element
- Replace the NTC
The heating element on a Candy washing machine can suffer from an open circuit or low insulation. This stops the element from heating up during a cycle.
If the low temperature is not caused by a faulty heating element or NTC, then the control module will most likely be defective and will need to be replaced with a new one.
E15 Candy washing machine error code (control module)
The control module has failed and needs to be reprogrammed. The E15 error code means that the Cuore control is not correctly programmed and the PCB needs to be replaced or reprogrammed.
Candy washing machines require special equipment so that you can reprogramme the control module and you can usually only access the equipment if you’re a repairer.
The easiest way to fix this fault is to order a new control module that has been preprogrammed for your model washing machine.
E16 Candy washing machine error code (heating element)
The machine detected a short circuit in the heating element. The heating element is located at the back of the machine and is responsible for making sure the water gets heated up during a wash cycle.
What to do to fix the E16 fault code:
- Make sure that the wiring leading to the heating element has not come away or burned out
- Check the insulation of the heating element
- Check the heating element for an open circuit
Replacing the heating element will usually fix this fault and is a straightforward repair. The heating element can be accessed by removing the metal panel at the rear of the machine.
E17 Candy washing machine error code (motor tachometric generator)
The washing machine control board is receiving the wrong signal from the tachometric generator. The tachometer is a part of the drive motor and is responsible for regulating the speed of the motor.
You may notice that the speed of the drum has been too slow or too fast in recent washes before the error code is displayed.
What you should check:
- Check that the motor cable connector block is in good condition and that the wires are correctly plugged in
- Inspect the wiring from the control board down to the motor for breaks
- Take a look at the tachometer on the rear of the motor and make sure the wires haven’t broken
- Try replacing the motor
If you can’t see any evidence of defective wiring from the control module to the motor, then replacing the motor will most likely fix this fault.
E18 Candy washing machine error code (PCB error)
The machine has detected a problem with the printed circuit board or the electrical input frequency.
The mains filter is located at the end of the power cable and is responsible for regulating the electrical input frequency. Before replacing the control module, it’s worth trying to replace the interference filter as they cost significantly less.
If replacing the mains filter does not clear the E18 error code, then the control module will need to be replaced.
